UNIDO delegation visit to VALORPNEU

On the 04-08 ^th of May 2011 UNIDO delegation headed by the Director of the UNIDO Centre for International Industrial Co-operation in the Russian Federation Sergey Korotkov visited VALORPNEU in Lisbon (Portugal) with a working visit.

VALORPNEU is a non-profit private limited company, created on February the 27 ^th, 2002, with the objective to organize and manage the system for collection, recovery and ultimate disposal of used tyres. VALORPNEU is one of the first European companies of its kind created to handle used tyres.

The main objective of the visit was to exchange the rubber waste experience and to see the advantages of the organized system in Portugal, which can be useful for implementation of the project „BAT/BEP Centre for environmentally safe disposal of potentially hazardous consumer products and industrial wastes“. During the visit UNIDO experts attended PNEUGREEN (operator for temporary storage of used tires), Secil Cement Operator Group (energy recovery operator) and RECIPNEU (recycler operator). UNIDO experts also got acquainted with rubber asphalt on the stretch of a freeway and synthetic sport field which aremanufactured usingcrumb rubber.

The main result of the visit was reaching the agreement with VALORPNEU representatives about their participation in the process of harmonization of Russian and European legislation on the collection, recycling and disposal of used tyres.
