    The 20th UNIDO General Conference concluded in Vienna

    The 20th session of the General Conference of UNIDO with the theme, “Fair Globalization: Innovative Solutions for the Industry of Tomorrow“, has concluded after five days, during which representatives of Member State and other guests explored new pathways to sustainability, digital inclusivity and economic resilience. Discussions and debates focused on how inclusive and sustainable industrial development can support sustainable supply chains, limit climate breakdown and contribute to ending hunger worldwide.

    On November 6th, the Head of the UNIDO Centre in Russia Mr. Igor Kozhin took part in the launch event of the Fourth Industrial Revolution Alliance (4IR Alliance) and the Global Call 2023 Award Ceremony at the 6th China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai.

    The UNIDO Global Call was launched in 2020 for the first time by the UNIDO Investment and Technology Promotion Office (ITPO) in Rome, Italy. Since its inception, the torch has been passed to ITPO Bonn in 2021, and Shanghai in 2022. Over the 3 years, more than 2,000 participants from 108 countries took part in the initiative.

In the past three years, UNIDO Global Call has focused on innovative technologies and best practices over the past three years, attracting more than 2,000 participants from 108 countries to contribute intelligent solutions.

    The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the European Union (EU) Delegation to Armenia, and the National Body of Standards and Metrology (NBSM) of Armenia jointly celebrated the World Metrology Day 2023 — Measurements supporting the global food system in Yerevan on May 19, 2023. Over 70 representatives from the public and private sectors in Armenia joined the celebration and learnt about the importance of local metrology services for a well-functioning food system.

    On 24 May 2023, the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition of South Africa (the dtic), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO have signed a project to continue supporting South Africa’s efforts to improve the quality of indigenous essential and vegetable oils.

    UNIDO launches its first Standards Compliance Analytics Report for Albania

    On 2 May 2023, UNIDO launched its first Standards Compliance Analytics country report for Albania. The results of the detailed analysis on rates and reasons for border rejections for food products coming from Albania was presented to the Albanian Government and 16 key stakeholders during an online event. The results of the comprehensive analysis is being used to identify the key compliance challenges faced by exporting countries and thereby enhance targeting of investments in building relevant compliance capacities.

    A cashew roundtable took place on April 14th and drew representatives of all the key actors in the cashew value chain to discuss the findings of the Qualtrics assessment tool developed by UNIDO.
