UNIDO scales up Development Dialogues on the 4IR Strategic Framework

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is pleased to announce the launch of a new brochure titled Making the 4th Industrial Revolution Work For All: Development Dialogues on the 4IR Strategic Framework 2021-2030.

The UNIDO 4IR Strategic Framework aims to enable everyone to address the challenges and reap the opportunities of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), by advancing smart production for climate action, harnessing 4IR for economic development and improving livelihoods using 4IR technologies – with the development of innovation ecosystems, skills and capacity-building, governance, partnerships, investment and infrastructure.

Organized by UNIDO, the first session of the Development Dialogues took place in October 2021, titled “Development Dialogue on the UNIDO Strategic Framework for the Fourth Industrial Revolution”, with the aim of briefing Member States on the status of the preparation of the 4IR Strategic Framework. The regional sessions took place thereafter, one each for the Africa Group, the Group of Latin America and the Caribbean Countries, the Asia Pacific, and Arab Regions, the Eastern European Group, and the Western European and Others Group.

Each regional session consisted of a presentation on the development of the UNIDO 4IR Strategic Framework, followed by feedback and remarks from its Member States and stakeholders. The Development Dialogue was an interactive event, where Member States provided relevant perspectives from the field and interlinkages aligning with other national priorities and strategies.

Recognizing the opportunities the 4IR presents, this topic was further discussed during the 9th Ministerial Conference of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and the 19th session of the UNIDO General Conference side events.

Based on the successful engagement with Member States and responding to their request for more contextualized exchanges, a new round of the Development Dialogues will be organized during February-April 2022. For that purpose, 4IR regional studies are planned with senior experts and stakeholders.
