PCB project won's EcoWorld-2021 award

The project, implemented by the UNIDO Center for International Industrial Cooperation in the Russian Federation, received a diploma from a prestigious environmental competition. The UNIDO / GEF project “Environmentally sound regulation and final destruction of PCBs at the enterprises of Russian Railways and other owners” was awarded in the EcoWorld-2021 International Competition, held by the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences.

Competition participants are awarded for outstanding achievements in environmental protection and environmental safety, education, new technologies, as well as in other environmental activities aimed at sustainable development.

The aim of the project is to create a system for the management of PCBs in the Russian Federation within the framework of the implementation of the provisions of the Stockholm Convention on POPs. The project provides for the creation of a system for the identification of PCBs in insulating liquids of electrical equipment, as well as subsequent labeling and disposal of PCBs in an environmentally friendly way. The project is the first phase of a nationwide program to phase out the use of PCBs in all industries.
