Conference «Modern standards of quality and food safety. The International System of Quality Assurance METRO GROUP»

On the 2d of March 2011 the conference „Modern standards of quality and food safety. The International System of Quality Assurance METRO GROUP” was held in Moscow. The conference was devoted to the introduction of modern international standards of quality and food safety for Russian suppliers that produce goods under the brands of METRO Cash & Carry and Real Hypermarket in Russia.

Gerardo Patacconi, Chief of the Cluster and Business Linkages Unit, Business, Invstment and Technology Branch in UNIDO, participated in the conference. Mr. Patacconi presented a pilot project to develop food suppliers in the Russian Federation which is in the framework of UNIDO Project to enhance industrial integration in EurAsEC countries.

The main purpose of the project is to enhancefood safety, providing high quality of food and its availability in the market, raising the level of food suppliers’ compliance to national and international standards and market requirements. It will focus on providing small and medium enterprises with know-how and UNIDO methodology for production of sufficient quantities of safe products that meet customer requirements and consumer needs.

On completion of the project pilot phase in Russia the experience in the field will be shared with other EurAsEC countries.
