UNIDO took part in the meeting of Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy

On January 19, within the framework of the meeting of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy, Sergey Korotkov, Director of the UNIDO Center for International Industrial Cooperation in the Russian Federation, made a speech on the topic “On promoting the interests of Russian business and promoting the transfer of Russian technologies through UNIDO”.
The meeting was chaired by the Chairman of the Federation Council Committee Andrey Kutepov.
Sergey Korotkov noted that the UNIDO Center in the Russian Federation is the official representative of UNIDO in the Russian Federation and works in accordance with goal #9 of the Sustainable Development Goals — to build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovationin in Russian regions and abroad. Now the work is focused on environmental issues, accumulation and transfer of technologies in the field of energy, waste processing, recycling of PCBs. Promising areas for joint projects under the auspices of UNIDO for Russian companies are the cooperation in the Arctic and the promotion of Russian exports, in particular, in Africa.
Denis Butsaev, General Director of PPK Russian Environmental Operator, also spoke at the meeting. He told about the adopted concept of improving the institution of extended responsibility of manufacturers and importers of goods and packaging, as well as further steps to implement it.
He noted the need to modernize the information system for the collection and utilization of MSW, as well as to develop a new approach to the calculation of environmental tax rates, based on economic incentives for advanced technologies.
