Conference «GEF/UNIDO Project»

On the 3d of March 2011 presentation of the GEF/UNIDO Project “Phase-out reduction of hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFC) consumption and the encouragement of transition to hydrofluorocarbons-free energy efficient refrigeration and air conditioning equipment through technology transfer in the Russian Federation” was held in Expocentre. The project is implemented jointly with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Enviroment and the Global Environmental Facility.

The main objective of the project is a direct derivation of HCFCs consumption in the amount of 600 tons of ozone-depleting potential (ODP) from the sectors of foam and refrigeration equipment to achieve the target set for the Russian Federation by the Montreal Protocol by 2015.

Since HCFCs are potent greenhouse gases, it will simultaneously reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 15.6 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent.

The second objective of the project is the transfer of innovative technologies in the modernization of industrial enterprises producing foam insulation, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment. This will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 10 million tons within 5 years by reducing energy consumption.
