V All-Russian Congress of Environmental Protection and II International Exhibition-Forum “ECOTECH” held in Moscow

The UNIDO Centre participated in the V All-Russian Congress of Environmental Protection and II International Exhibition-Forum “ECOTECH” that took place in Moscow from 12 to 14 December 2017. The International Exhibition-Forum “ECOTECH” was jointly held with the All-Russian Congress of Environment Protection for the first time. The merging of two event has created a synergy that resulted in increased efficiency of both Forum and Congress.

Among the Congress delegates were representatives of professional ecological community and environmental organizations activists from all 85 regions of Russia. The main theme of the events was the summing up of outcomes of the Year of Ecology in Russia.

During the official opening of the events the participants were welcomed by the Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of Russia Sergey Donskoy. Among other high-level participants were Sergey Ivanov, Special Presidential Representative for Environmental Protection, Ecology and Transport, Andrey Vorobiev, Governor of Moscow oblast, Vladimir Burmatov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Ecology and Environmental Protection of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Nikolay Kasimov, president of Moscow State University Faculty of Geography, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Chairman of the Public Council of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation. A video message by the Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme Erik Solheim was shown to the participants.

V All-Russian Congress of Environmental Protection and II International Exhibition-Forum “ECOTECH” held in Moscow

On the second day of the Congress on 13 December 2017 the Director of the UNIDO Centre in the Russian Federation Sergey Korotkov made a presentation within the section organized by the Federal Agency on Water Resources “Water – expanding borders of cooperation”. His presentation was dedicated to the joint UNIDO Centre and Ministry of Natural Resources project “Clean rivers of BRICS”. The project concept was developed by UNIDO together with the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia within the framework of the BRICS Green Technology Platform established following BRICS Environmental Ministers Meeting held in Moscow, on 22 April 2015. The Platform serves as a practical ground for BRICS countries to ensure knowledge sharing in the field of legal environmental regulations and data sharing on best available green technologies.

The project is aimed at increasing interaction between BRICS countries to control river water pollution and enhancing cooperation on a variety of issues related to water resources management and environmental protection.

V All-Russian Congress of Environmental Protection and II International Exhibition-Forum “ECOTECH” held in Moscow

Mr. Korotkov took part in the section entitled “Circular economy model: theory and practice”. The section was organized by European-Russian Business Association. The Director of the UNIDO Centre presented the activities of UNIDO in the field of promotion of industrial development at the time of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and projects implemented by the UNIDO Centre in Russia, and particularly, the work carried out in cooperation with the National Research Centre “Kurchatov Institute” on the introduction of naturally-based technologies in industry.
